Southwest Tennessee – history, peaceful star filled evenings, and a special place for mid-south BBQ.
After boondocking for a few nights we needed to refresh our tanks and decided on a rural thousand trails in southwest Tennessee…Cherokee Landing. We arrived to find we were one of six RVs camping in the park where there were spaces for somewhere in the 150 site range. This is a campground that is open starting April 1st and we were lucky enough to arrive within days of opening. We were in a part of the park where there was only one other RV. It felt like we had our own campground….wish they could all be like that!
We spent most of our time here hiking within the park. It is a great place to see some of the civil war battlefields if you are a history buff.

The gem of our stay was a small shack selling Tennessee BBQ in the small town of Bolivar, TN…Richards Bar B Que …Richards Bar B Que documented
I am usually not much for baked beans…these were the best I have ever tasted! It is an amazing deal….$14.88 for a family meal: 2 sides, a pound of pulled pork, the famous sauce, and an entire package of 12 buns to make your sandwiches! We happened to seek this place out in a huge storm so we had a car picnic in our little smart car. I am pretty sure I just drooled thinking about it! It lasted us several meals … oh and make sure you try the southern sweet tea to top it off. (I admit I am more of an unsweetened tea girl)
No inside places to eat here…it is truly a wonderful rustic experience…
OK, here are some fun pictures of this beautiful park….
On to visit some family next – stay tuned!
