About 90 miles south of Fort Worth Texas, there is an outdoor gem. Lake Whitney, Texas is in the western hill country of Northern Texas. This is an area with camping, outdoor recreation, and unlimited exploration. Part of America’s heartland…customer service is not dead here. In town, we received old fashioned customer service at the local grocery store….Brookshires! They pride themselves on their customer service by even insisting taking your groceries to your car for you. (we have a a smart car not many groceries will fit in our car) but they insisted! More employees than customers the way it used to be. It was very refreshing.
On to the outdoors…the Whitney Dam was created from the Dam on the Brazos River. A substantial size lake with camping, boating, swimming, and Kayaking. We stayed at Thousand Trails right on the lake. A great choice if you have a thousand trails membership. However, if I did not have thousand trails I would choose one of the great public campground with amazing views right on the lake. I would choose Site 41 on a bluff overlooking the lake. At this time of year, you can hear the frogs making music from this site!
Spend a little time taking in the view and hiking the area. An amazing way to relax and take it all in!
Down side this time of year is all of the thunderstorms with the of Tornadoes…Small price to pay to get flowers like these…
On to the next stop… Stay tuned!
